The Return of the Premier League Will Trigger a Betting Wave

The Premier League returns this weekend. Whilst there are still a few days for clubs to get deals over the line before the start of the season, it seems like most clubs have already kitted out their stadiums with a crop of new signings. How will they affect the outcome of matches on day one?

Manchester Utd - Tottenham

The Premier League season begins with Spurs' tricky visit to Old Trafford, where they face a rebuilt Manchester United squad. Will De Gea make it between the sticks? Can Rooney hold the fort up front all on his lonesome? Those are questions we don't have the answers to. United will be better rested than Tottenham (due to their participation in the Audi Cup), and they have a better squad on paper. As we saw last year, though, this means little.

A good pre-season run can count for nothing on the opening weekend, as United discovered to their peril against Swansea last year. Even so, one would have to favour United to grab all three points and momentarily sit on top of the league for the first time in a couple of years. Everygame is offering 1.61 for a Man United win, whilst if you fancy a punt at a shock away win, they'll offer you 5.50. A draw comes in at a reasonable 3.80 with Everygame.

Everton, Leicester and Crystal Palace

After the curtain raiser, newly promoted Bournemouth host Tim Sherwood's Aston Villa, and that one is too tough to call. Everton should dispatch of newly promoted Watford, with the Toffees at 1.72 with Everygame to do just that. Meanwhile, Leicester are 1.90 on to defeat Sunderland at home, whilst Norwich City and Crystal Palace play each other at Carrow Road. You can get a very respectable 2.90 on Palace spanking the Canaries. With their big money signings (Connor Wickham and Yohan Cabaye to name a few), that's a bet everybody will want a slice of.

Chelsea - Swansea

The defending champions are at home to Swansea in the final match on Saturday. Everygame is offering you a bold 9.00 to the pound if you're brave enough to bet on Swansea. This could be an intriguing bet, and shocks do occur on the opening day. Chelsea are likely to stride home, though.

Arsenal - West Ham

Sunday's opener between Arsenal and West Ham sees Everygame offering you odds of just 1.25 for a Gunners win. They are basing that on Arsenal following up their Community Shield win in style. Don't write off the Hammers, though. They've been spending themselves, and a huge 12.00 offer for a West Ham away win is very tempting indeed.

Newcastle - Southampton

Newcastle and Southampton play at the same time, with odds of 2.87 for the Magpies to win, 3.20 for the draw, and 2.50 for a Saints win, all very close. One would expect a Southampton win, so those odds aren't too shabby at all.

Stoke - Liverpool

Sunday's final game sees Stoke take on Liverpool. Despite the fact that Stoke have knocked Liverpool for six the last few times they have met, Everygame is offering you 3.40 for a Potters win. Liverpool are favoured at 2.10. If Benteke can't get his stuff together, and the Reds'new signings don't gel, one would have to fancy Stoke doing it again, and at those odds it's a steal.

West Bromwich - Manchester City

The final match to be played features West Brom, who host Manchester City. The Baggies are going through a tough time, and they haven't strengthened anywhere near enough. Although they are 5.25 to beat City, you would have to back Man City to win it, especially at a somewhat generous 1.61.
