Spanish La Liga Betting Odds and Preview, August 23 - 25
Published: August 22, 2014La Liga returns this weekend, much to the delight of Spanish football sports betting fans across the globe. Last season, Atletico Madrid shocked everyone by winning the Spanish Primera Division for the tenth time, their first title since 1995-1996. It is only fitting to start with Atletico then, who are the last team to play, on Monday 25 August.
Rayo Vallecano - Atletico Madrid
The reigning champions begin their defence of the La Liga crown away, against Rayo Vallecano. The home side had a pretty enjoyable campaign last time out, finishing twelfth overall. If they want to push for Europe, then a win against the defending champions will kick things off right. As good as Atletico were though, you have to remember that a lot of their players have moved on, and they'll be focusing mostly on Champions League football this year. They proved good value for money in the Spanish Super Cup, but a draw could be on the cards on day one. Of course, Atletico are favourites to win with Everygame, at 1.50. However, a draw at 4.00 could be worth a punt. If you're feeling adventurous, even a 7.00 home win for Rayo Vallecano isn't absurd!
Malaga - Athletic Bilbao
On Saturday, the opening game is Malaga vs. Athletic Bilbao, fresh after losing midfield starlet Ander Herrera to Man Utd, Bilbao will have their work cut out for them. The fourth placed finishers may have a better squad, but do they gel as well as this Malaga side? It's anybody's bet in the first match of the new season, with Everygame offering odds of 2.80, 2.80 and 2.45 for a Malaga win, a draw or a Bilbao win, respectively.
Granada - Deportivo La Coruna
You'd fancy newly promoted Deportivo de la Coruna's chances against Granada, wouldn't you? The former giants are only 4.20 to win away, though. We've got a feeling they'll do it. Deportivo had a bad year when they got relegated, but they are back and play better football in previous years. We'd say Granada could even be for the chop this year, so at 4.20 to win, it'd be rude not to back Deportivo!
Sevilla - Valencia
Sevilla vs. Valencia is a big clash. Last year's fifth and eighth played teams go head to head, and both will be eager to make their mark on the season. Sevilla should have the advantage against a weakened Valencia team, and Everygame's 2.05 odds on them to win is fair.
Barcelona - Elche
F.C. Barcelona begin their season against lowly Elche. Elche escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth (and one point) last season. F.C. Barcelona weren't on top of their game, but after spending well over £100m this season, they'll be expecting to challenge for the crown. This whitewash will bag you only 1.10 with Everygame.
Real Madrid - Cordoba
Real Madrid C.F. have spent big again this summer - as they always do. Last year, it counted for nothing, though. This year, they'll be hoping for a better return on those hundreds of millions. The Galacticos host Cordoba, in the easiest fixture of the opening weekend. How easy? Well, Real Madrid have odds of just 1.062 for the win. Cordoba by contrast, at 29.00 for the win at Everygame. If you are a brave sports betting fan (and you'd have to be), this one is the spectacle.
