It is almost time to start those engines. That's right, the Formula One circuit is returning in March, and we've been busying ourselves checking out this year's grid, who is racing for what team, and what their title chances are. So far, pre-season testing has presented us with a quite different look to the driver's championship possibilities than we may have expected. If things stay as they are, one thing is for certain. This season is going to be spectacular.
Reigning champion Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team have been stuck for most of pre-season, scarcely able to string together more than a dozen laps, in what looks at the moment to be a worthless piece of junk. Of course that won't last, and Red Bull will fix their troublesome motor before the season really kicks into hear, so Vettel is still rated at 4.00 to lift the driver's championship towards the end of the year.
Lewis Hamilton is in with a real chance of lifting the driver's title this year, according to most bookies. The Mercedes star is favoured at 3.50, after some impressive performances in pre-season testing. Last year, both him and fellow Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg put in some blistering fast times and started races on pole. However, the car failed them in the long run, so the question is, have Mercedes fixed it? Rosberg is also a favourite at 7.00.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso is always a favourite and at 6.00, you'd fancy his chances. Ferrari have designed a better car this year, and along with new team mate Kimi Raikkonen, Ferrari may prove themselves unstoppable. Even if Raikkonen is an outsider at 12.0, and you don't fancy Fernando's chances of championship glory; you'd still do well to back Ferrari to win the constructor's championship, with their favourable 4.50 odds. This is even though Mercedes and Red Bull are favoured at 2.00 and 4.33, respectively. McLaren are 7.00 outsiders for the constructor's title if you are wondering.
But back to the drivers, what can we expect? If McLaren have sorted out their disastrous problems form last year, and new driver Kevin Magnussen is compatible with former title winning teammate Jenson Button, you could see Jenson winning the title. Couldn't you? Button is 9.00 favourite to win, and if it rains a lot, you could be in luck as the Brit is the best driver on the track in the wet.
Could there be a surprise waiting in the wings in Formula One this season? The most obvious dark horse would be Kevin Magnussen at 13.0, whilst Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull is also capable of providing a shock, and would be come in nicely at 41.0. Ultimately though, we think the crown will be decided between Vettel or Hamilton, but who can say? We've only got three weeks to wait. The odds will alter as the season goes on, so you'd best get them in now.
